Bring The Outdoors In by Shane Powers

Bring The Outdoors In is written by the Brooklyn based stylist and designer Shane Powers. He has worked as an editor on Martha Stewart Living and has collaborated on collections with West Elm, where he designed indoor flower and gardening vessels. His work has also appeared in Bloom magazine and Vogue Living Australia.

Bring the Outdoors In is a brand new book and it's published by Chronicle Books. It's written with freelance lifestyle writer Jennifer Cegielski and the beautiful photographs are by the New York-based photography team Gentl and Hyers.

There are 22 simple projects showing you how to bring nature into your home. Shane has created easy-to-follow "recipes" and instructions - and he uses a variety of cut flowers, succulents, aquatic plants, fungi and moss. He also uses dried flowers, branches and pressed botanicals.

Shane describes the projects as: "not gardening projects per se; they are three-dimensional still lifes, miniature worlds designed to enhance your interiors."

He started out working as a stylist for the ground-breaking publication Bloom. The founder, Li Edelkort encouraged him "to think beyond traditional uses, and focus instead on plants and flower as more dynamic elements."

The Dried Floral Garland is one of my favourite projects in the book - and I am already thinking about what flowers, leaves and seed heads I could dry during the next few months. I like to make one to hang over the mirror in our hall - to great our guests and to frame you in flowers when you look in the mirror!

I hope you found this inspiring and maybe you can try out some of the projects.

Thanks for visiting, making lovely comments and I'll see you back here soon!

xoxo Ingrid
